Motorized Shades in North Texas: What to Know Before You Buy
August 9, 2026
Motorized shades can be useful for hard-to-reach windows, large window groups, bedrooms, media rooms, and homeowners who want scheduled or remote light control. Before choosing a system, it helps to understand the major decisions.
What can be motorized?
Depending on the product line, motorization may be available for roller shades, Roman shades, cellular shades, solar shades and other styles. See our window shades guide, and note that many exterior solar shades can be motorized too. Options can include remote controls, wall controls, smartphone control, scheduling and smart-home integration.
Questions to ask a provider
Ask about battery versus wired power, charging or battery replacement, warranty coverage, smart-home compatibility, installation requirements, and what happens if the motor or control system needs service.
Compare the total project cost
Motorization can add to the cost of a window-treatment project. Compare the complete estimate rather than only the shade price, and confirm whether motors, controls, power supplies, installation, programming and warranty coverage are included.
